Emergency services rushed to the scene and managed to rescue one of the drivers from a burning vehicle. The sequence of events began around 9:43 p.m., when deputies were called to the intersection following reports of a multi-vehicle collision. Upon investigation, it was revealed that an 18-year-old driver named Vance Peterson was traveling west on Plank Road in a red Ford F150. As he attempted to dodge a deer, his vehicle veered into oncoming traffic. While narrowly missing a landscaping truck, the F150 collided head-on with a white GMC Sierra. Moments later, a red Dodge Ram struck the already damaged F150, causing it to catch fire.

Peterson, who was trapped inside the burning vehicle, was swiftly rescued by first responders who broke the driver-side window. Despite their efforts, he sustained significant burns and fractures, requiring immediate transport to Loyola Hospital via helicopter. Among those involved in the crash were Erick Garcia-Porcayo and Rosalio Porcayo-Porcayo, passengers in the GMC Sierra, who tragically lost their lives at the scene.
